Assam eyes 25000 digital villages by 2021

Guwahati, Sept. 1: Assam today stressed the importance of taking information technology and digital education to every village in the state by 2021. Addressing the inaugural session of the 12th edition of the Northeast Information and Communication Technology (NICT) that got under way here today, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said his government would develop the mission of e-gram to connect every village in the state through digital technology in the next five years.

E-gram is one of the nine sub-missions and a part of the mega mission the state government has taken up to connect as many as 25,000 revenue villages with information technology in the next five years.

"Being a northeasterner, I must say that the region is full of potential and possibilities. So it is important for everyone to discover the Northeast through a digital highway and digital literacy.

I urge information technology players to join us to utilise the potential of the region and help it prosper," Sonowal said at the conference organised in association with The Telegraph at Radisson Blu here.
