Badminton to be promoted as a profession and to be opted as a profession
Bhubaneswar: “Odisha can be a powerhouse in producing outstanding Badminton players who can match the best in the world,” said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, Chairman of CII, Odisha and CMD of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) at the closing ceremony of the 4th Nalini Kanta Mohanty Memorial State Open Ranking Badminton Tournament.
Addressing the programme as the Guest of Honour, in the August presence of Hon’ble Governor of Odisha and Chief Guest Dr. S.C. Jamir, President of Amateur Badminton Club, Bhubaneswar Shri Purthvi Ballav Pattnaik, among other officials, fans and players, Dr. Chand lauded the young shuttlers of the state for putting up a quality showing in the tournament, saying this is indeed a special tribute to the Late Sri Nalini Kanta Mohanty who has done a lot of work to promote badminton in Odisha. Dr. Chand encouraged people to believe in the capabilities of the youngsters, saying ‘’Badminton should be promoted as a profession and opted as a profession.’’
‘’Odisha has been home to some big bang sporting events. The Asian Athletics Championship was held recently, the Hockey World Cups is going to take place soon. These are good times for sportspersons and fans of Odisha. We should seize the moment and show our might in sports on national and international platforms. I am sure our young badminton players can script success stories which we can all be proud of.’’ He also called upon Corporates to come forward to support the budding talent in the State.
Altogether 402 shuttlers from across 27 districts participated in 10 different categories of the 4th Nalini Kanta Mohanty Memorial State Open Ranking Badminton Tournament, which kickstarted at East Coast Railway Indoor Stadium on 12th October.
