Foundation stone of Powergrid centre laid in city cancer institute
GUWAHATI. : Assam Governor, Shri Banwarilal Purohit laid the foundation stone of a ‘Powergrid Capacity Development Centre in Oncology’ at Dr. B.Barooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor called upon the people at large to adopt a lifestyle which has the potential of developing a deterrent against diseases like cancer. Expressing concern over the alarming rise of oncology related cases in the State, he said an active lifestyle coupled with total abstinence from all narcotic substances have the potential to build shield against cancer.
Sending a message of caution to the people that Northeast has high prevalence cases of oral, throat and lung cancer, Purohit urged the people to avoid tobacco in all its forms. The Governor requested the hospital authorities to take steps to bring about psychological and behavioural changes in the patients addicted to chewing and smoking tobacco which according to him would go a long way in preventing cancer.
