GSL Delivered 6 more Ships to Indian Coast Guard

Vasco: Goa Shipyard Ltd. created yet another history in Indian Shipbuilding Industry, by delivering all 6 ships, each of 2400 Tonns & 105 M long,  ahead of schedule from Oct 2015 to Nov 2017 thus completing the 6 CG OPV project successfully. The 6th and last of the ship “ICGS SUJAY”, delivered by GSL on 04 November 2017 was ceremoniously inducted into Indian Coast Guard by Director General Coast Guard Rajendra Singh on 21 Dec 2017 at GSL in the distinguished presence of RAdm Shekhar Mital, CMD, GSL and other dignitaries. This state-of-the-art, largest and most advanced new generation vessels have been built in a record build period of 36 months as against 67 months built period taken for similar sized OPVs previously.

 

Addressing the gathering, DGCG Rajendra Singh stated ‘GSL is the single, most important partner in the growth story of Indian Coast Guard. The GSL built ships are the mainstay of Indian Coast Guard in helping them to rescue precious lives at sea both during natural calamities like ‘Cyclone Ockhi’ or man-made disasters like oil spills, fire incidents onboard merchant ships, besides anti-piracy and anti-smuggling operations of Coast Guard. GSL not only ‘Makes in India’ but ‘Makes the Best in India’.’ DGCG congratulated RAdm Shekhar Mital, CMD, GSL for the astounding results in ahead of schedule culmination of the 6 CG OPV project in record time.  

 

Significantly, GSL has delivered 17 out of 20 large sized ships, Coast Guard has included in last decade. RAdm Shekhar Mital, NM, IN (Retd) CMD, said ‘Today is a momentous occasion to express GSL’s pride, marking the conclusion of the 6th CGOPV Project by GSL. Starting with the delivery of ICGS Samarth on 30th Oct 2015, GSL has successfully delivered all the six high-quality OPVs within a short span of 2 years, with the last delivery of this ship on 4th Nov 2017, 34 days ahead of schedule.’ Incidentally, GSL is the only DPSU to secure 100% MoU score this year leaving all other shipyards far behind, in the operational performance of the shipyard.

 

ADG K Natrajan, Commander Western Seaboard, Directors Mr S P Raikar, Mr. Sudhakar T N, Cmde B B Nagpal and Senior Officials of GSL and Coast Guard, Government, were also present during the Commissioning ceremony.
