IOC Sets up Round-the-clock Control Rooms

New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the Nation’s largest fuel retailer announced it will set up 87 control rooms across the country to address technical glitches and issues that may arise at dealers’ end after daily price revision is initiated beginning16 June.

All major petroleum dealer federations -- All India Petroleum Dealers Association (AIPDA), Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD) and Federation of All India Petroleum Traders (FAIPT) -- have raised concerns against the Oil Marketing Companys’ move to kick off daily price revision of petrol and diesel at outlets.

The federations have raised concerns about inventory loss and lack of automated petrol pumps as the major hurdles for implementing the initiative. In order to address various technical and other issues the fuel retailer is setting up control room cells at 70 divisional offices which will be manned by technical, operations and retail sales officers while at its 16 state offices, the control room cell will be manned by information systems, engineering and retail sales officers.

“The apex cell at marketing head office in Mumbai will comprise officers from information systems, pricing and retail groups. These control rooms will operate round the clock till the system to establish an appropriate mechanism for daily price revision stabilizes,” IOC said in a statement.

Further, through its 129 supply locations spread across the country, IOC will ensure 90 per cent supplies reach the various dealers’ fuel stations within 24 hours. This supply and distribution mechanism is expected to ensure the impact of increasing or decreasing price trends on working capital is minimised. “The daily price revision is an initiative for ensuring the best possible prices to the customers as well as improved transparency in the pricing mechanism,” IOC said.

While petrol pumps will be displaying the daily prices, customers can access IndianOil’s mobile app Fuel@IOC for the rates. Alternatively, customers can also check prices in their cities by sending text message in form of RSP< SPACE >DEALER CODE to 92249-92249. The Dealer Code of each petrol pump would be prominently displayed in the petrol pump premises.

IOC said the company has conducted dealer training workshops at 450 sales areas to ensure customers do not face any pricing misinformation or glitches. The company has also reviewed the mobile phone numbers and email data of its 25,000 dealers to ensure timely information on the effective prices at a pre-designated time,20:00 hours for the next day, reaches the correct consumer.

The dealers will receive the updated price through customised SMS, e-mails , mobile application and web portals. IndianOil has also commenced an all India trial run for daily price revision from June 13 at all petrol stations.
