MCL Clocked 9.9 pc Growth in Last Fiscal

TALCHER .  Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) topped among eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL) in terms of contribution to CIL achieving 9.9 per cent growth in the last fiscal.

According to annual output figure, CIL recorded a production of 494.23 million tonne (MT) last year out of which the share of MCL was around 121 MT, the highest among all the subsidiaries. However, CIL lagged behind its annual target of 507 MT while MCL fell short of the target of 127 MT. MCL sources said it could have achieved the target but for the recurrent disturbances in some of the coalfields throughout the year and cap in production in some of the mines due to lack of environmental clearances. The growth of 9.9 per cent of MCL is highest in the last eight years. Still, MCL remained the second highest company in CIL while the South Eastern Coalfield Limited (SECL) continued to be on the top in terms of growth.

The official figure of MCL stated that Talcher Coalfield in 2014-15 crossed 70 MT mark by producing 71.07 MT against the target of 76.95 MT. In the previous year, its output was 63.97 MT. The growth was at 11.9 per cent.

Similarly, the output in Ib valley coalfield consisting of Basundhara area remained at 50.31 MT against the target of 46.46 MT. It registered a growth of 8.3 per cent.

Commenting on the annual coal output, CMD of MCL Shri  AN Sahay thanked the entire team of MCL for the resounding success in the field of production.
