NLCIL Inaugurates Three Day National Seminar
Neyveli: Shri Susheel Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, GoI, inaugurated the three day National Seminar -2018, organized by NLC India Limited on the theme Emerging ,Energy Scenario in India & Emerging Coal/Lignite Mining scenario and Mining Closure Activities through Video Conferencing from Delhi, this morning, (20.01.2018) at the Neyveli Learning & Development Centre.
Shri Susheel Kumar,in his inaugural speech expressed his concern for better environmental management and higher safety measures in the mining sector and regulation of fossil-fuel consumption to maintain ecological balance. He is confident that India will be able to meet its renewable energy target of 175 GW by 2022.
He admired NLC India management for organizing the seminar on very important and contemporary issues in Energy scenario in India and asked to participants to come up with a solution to capture carbon emissions.
Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance), the Chief Guest in his address informed that, NLCIL as part of its corporate plan, it has initiated this National level seminar by converging Mining,Power & Renewable Energy sectors to draw some conclusions to address various stumbling block issues like, Environment friendly mining, project management, regulatory controls, challenges in Power Generation, Grid management, handling competitive atmosphere in power sale and ramping up renewable energy.
Shri Anjani Kumar, Coal Controller, Govt. of India, the Guest of honour informed that improper surface or opencast mining may cause potential harmful effect on the environment and disruption of biodiversity. Acknowledging these adverse environmental impacts, the Government of India has mandated the restoration of mining areas post mine closure to create a ‘self-sustaining ecosystem’. He congratulated NLCIL management for taking efforts in maintaining ecological balance and for adopting self-sustaining mining methods.
Dr. S.K Acharya, CMD, NLC India Ltd, through a video message, informed that NLC India organized this seminar in order to create platform to practitioners Academicians, Regulatory Agencies from Mining and Power sector to pay adequate attention and address the present scenario and challenges in Mining & Power Sector for making India to become a global hub for Clean energy.
Earlier, a message sent by Shri. Piyush Goyal, Hon'ble Minister for Railways & Coal, Government of India was read by Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR) NLCIL.
To mark the occasion compact format of seminar research papers and the souvenir was released by Shri Rakesh Kumar, the Chief Guest.
Earlier, Shri V.Thangapandian and Shri P. Selvakumar delivered the seminar theme Speech and Shri. Syed Abdul Fateh Khalid, ED/Mines delivered a welcome speech. Shri T.Venkata Subramanian, CVO, NLCIL, Shri R.Kandasamy, Shri S.Rajagopal and Shri J.Mahil Selvan, former Directors of NLCIL graced the occasion. An exhibition was organized wherein NLCIL Mining operation models and Achievements depicted. In this three day National Seminar 500 delegates from various Organizations including NLC India are participating.
