New Delhi: The National Research Development Corporation, of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, is planning to launch its office in Amaravati.

“The State government (A.P. Innovation Society) has entered into a MoU with the NRDC, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced Rs 100 crore to give a boost to the startup companies,” said NRDC Chairman and Managing Director H. Purushotham during his visit to Amaravati recently.

The NRDC had launched Startup India campaign in January last year and opened its office in Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.

“If the government allots 10 acres in the capital, we are ready to start our branch in Amaravati. It helps in promoting new companies and motivating budding entrepreneurs,” he said.

“As per the survey taken up by NASSCOM, there are 5,000 startups in the country. The Centre wants to increase their number to 10 lakh in the next five years, and the NRDC is planning to meet the target,” Dr. Purushotham told The Hindu.

The corporation is planning to organise awareness programmes and exhibitions in universities, professional colleges, and PG and degree colleges to forge institute-industry tie-ups, and launch more incubation centres and new ventures with innovative ideas.

“To achieve success, we need the cooperation of the budding professionals, parents, academicians, industrialists, financiers, and other stakeholders,” he said.

“Both the Union and State governments are encouraging startups, and this is the best time to start new ventures. We have good scope to start new enterprises in health, energy, education, food processing, aquaculture, and other sectors in India,” he explained.

“We advise every college to have an incubation centre, good infrastructure and mentors. We suggest youngsters to start their business units with the brands that have patent rights so that the product will have good demand in the national and international markets,” he said.

“Once we open our office in Amaravati, we will focus on setting up more incubation centres and help young entrepreneurs to launch companies with unique ideas in the State,” Mr. Purushotham, CMD, NRDC added. The HINDU
