NRDC Recently Licensed Solar Power Tree Developed at CSIR CMERI
Vishakhapatnam: NRDC recently licensed patent-protected process know-how for the manufacture of Solar Power Tree technology developed by CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur to M/s Surya Power Tree, Vishakhapatnam. The Solar Power Tree was launched by Shri Y. S. Chowdary, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Govt of India during the event jointly organised by CSIR-IICT-Andhra University-Sujana Foundation and NRDC “Be an Entrepreneur in Science & Technology” in the Dr YVS Murthy Auditorium, Vishakhapatnam. It was launched in presence of Shri K Hari Babu and Shri M. Srinivas, Members of Parliament, Shri Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Hon’ble Minister for HRD and Higher Education, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. S. Chandrashekhar, Director, CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad, Dr.H. Purushotham, CMD, NRDC and Mr. M. Chandrabose, Proprietor of M/s Surya Power Tree.
The 3kWh Solar Power Tree is sufficient to meet the needs of a middle-class family without depending on grid power. It can be set up in a very small space of 4 sft and can withstand winds of up to 200 kmph. The 3kWh tree can be scaled up to 12 kWh to meet the power needs of the agriculture or commercial enterprises. There will be a multifold decrease in the land required for big solar plants and alternatively, 1kWh tree can also be manufactured to suit the residential needs and it will cost around Rs.85,000/- only. It will also benefit commercial enterprises, while the distribution company’s charge Rs.9 per unit, solar power could be produced @ Rs.3.5 per unit and excess power can be exported to the grid which can also helps in eraning renenues.
