New Generation 5G ICT Capable to Deliver Smart Services for Smart City
Bhubaneswar: “Making Bhubaneswar a smart city will require smart services- 24X7 power supply with minimum consumption, drinking water supply with zero wastage, hundred percent effluent effluent recycling with zero discharge, multimodal transport with enhanced safety, improved medical care, controlled devices for household gadgets and so on,” said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO. He was addressing the 29th GISFI and IEEE 5G Summit held at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar on 17th August 2017. He further said that new generation 5G technology with internet of things, MIMO technology, energy efficient network etc. is capable of handling ultra-intensive net load and help in real time decision making. This will bring in smart services.
Dr. Chand further informed that by 2020, thirty billion sensors will be collecting data and one person with average six devices will have global internet connection. The enormous data and its analysis etc also pose severe threat to its security. Besides, extensive digitalization will require the system to be made more common people friendly through codes and symbols for ease of handling.
“NALCO, having its entire value chain in Odisha and being the only Navratna CPSE having headquarters in Bhubaneswar, has been an integral part of the development process of the State. Further in this line, the company is taking many initiatives, in the field of capacity expansion, investment in new projects, Research and Development, Technology Upgradation with a view to give a new fillip to the growth trajectory,” added Dr. Chand.
“In this context, the industries have a major role to play and NALCO, as a responsible Corporate Citizen, is all set to lead the path,” Dr. Chand said.

Sinha, Technical Programme Committee Chair, Prof. Amit Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University and Prof. Srikanta Patnaik, Convener, Organizing Committee, were present on the occasion.
