PowerGrid commissions Champa -Kurukshetra transmission line

NEW DELHI. PowerGrid Corporation today commercially commissioned the Champa-Kurukshetra Pole-I electricity transmission line. "Trial operations of 1,500 mw, Pole-I of 800 kv HVDC Champa- Kurukshetra transmission system has been successfully completed and the pole has been put to commercial operations, starting today," PowerGrid said in a statement. 
 
According to statement, the power transmission system is part of interconnector transmission system for IPP projects in Chhattisgarh. 
 
Further, Pole-II of 1,500 mw capacity is also expected to be commissioned by June 2017. This project will allow transfer of power from IPP generation projects coming up in Raigarh, Champa, and Raipur generation complex in Chhattisgarh to demand centres of the northern region -- Haryana, Punjab, UP, Rajasthan and adjoining areas. 
 
This transmission system is further being upgraded to 6,000 mw capacity at an additional cost of about Rs 5,200 crore, which is expected to be completed by December 2018. The above transmission structure has been designed using state-of- the-art HVDC technology.
