SAIL Durgapur unit adds 125 tonne ladle furnace

DURGAPUR.  The modernisation and expansion drive of Steel Authority of India Limited has crossed yet another landmark with Durgapur Steel Plant adding on stream a new 125 tonne ladle furnace having a capacity of one million tonne per annum. It has been installed at a cost of INR 53 crore. 
 
The facility was made operational in the presence of Mr CS Verma chairman of SAIL. Mr SS Mohanty director technical of SAIL, Mr TS Suresh director projects & business planning and Mr PK Singh CEO of DSP, were present to witness the operation.
 
Mr Verma said that “SAIL Durgapur has gone one level up in production of higher quantities of value added steel, a further step towards meeting our ultimate objective, which is superior customer experience.”
 
Installed in the steel melting shop of DSP, this is the third ladle furnace in the shop, which will not only increase productivity by speeding up supply of liquid steel to the three existing continuous casters but will also feed the upcoming bloom cum round caster.
