Shri Atul Bhatt takes over as new Chairman And Managing Director of MECON LTD
Shri Atul Bhatt takes over as new Chairman & Managing Director of MECON LTD on 1st Oct, 2016. Prior to joining MECON, Shri Bhatt was the Executive Director (Business Development & Corporate Planning) of NMDC Limited. Shri Bhatt is a Chemical Engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (1986) and a Post Graduate in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata (1989). He has over 25 years of experience in International Marketing, Corporate Planning and Business Development with Global Majors like Tata Steel, Arcelor Mittal and NMDC Limited.
He joined NMDC in 2010 and in July, 2014 he became Executive Director (Business Development & Corporate Planning). He was responsible for comprehensive analysis of all the business development proposals of the company including overseas acquisition proposals. In his role as Executive Director in NMDC, he was instrumental in formulation of Strategic Management Plan 2025 for the company which not only plans to enhance the production and evacuation capacity of the company to 100 MTPA by the year 2025, but also proposes multiple strategic transformations in key functional areas of the company. During his time in NMDC, he has successfully led the first ever acquisition of an overseas Iron Ore Company by a PSU – Legacy Iron Ore – an ASX listed entity in Australia.
Shri Bhatt, during his tenure in Arcelor Mittal, was the Commercial Manager for Europe and was posted in London. He was responsible for expanding the steel trading business of the company.
Shri Bhatt has also worked at Mittal Steel, Tehran as a Country Manager from 2002 - 2007 and was primarily responsible for devising and implementing strategies for achieving sales and business plan targets.
During 1992–2002, Shri Bhatt served in various positions at Tata Steel and was posted at Kolkata. He was responsible for all export development functions of the company. He started his career as a graduate trainee for Tata Steel.
