Air India CMD Shri Kharola appointed Civil Aviation Secretary

New Delhi: Shri Pradeep Singh Kharola, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India, has been appointed the new Civil Aviation Secretary on Wednesday. The announcement came a few days after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) gave senior bureaucrat Ramesh Abhishek additional charge as Secretary of the Civil Aviation Ministry. 
 
Abhishek holds the position of Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The ACC said in a statement on Wednesday that 'The ACC has approved the appointment of Pradeep Singh Kharola, IAS (Karnataka cadre, 1985 batch), Chairman and Managing Director, Air India Ltd, as Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, against the vacancy caused due to the superannuation of Rajiv Nayan Choubey, IAS (Tamil Nadu cadre, 1981 batch) on 31.01.2019.'
 
He has been appointed in the Civil Aviation Ministry in place of Rajiv Nayan Choubey, who superannuated on January 31. Choubey has taken over as the member in the Union Public Service Commission. Besides this, senior bureaucrat Radheyshyam Julaniya has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Sports, in place of Rahul Prasad Bhatnagar. Senior IAS officer Sailesh will be Secretary, the Minority Affairs Ministry. 
 
Sailesh, a 1985-batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is at present Secretary, the Department of Official Language. The officer will continue to hold the post of Secretary, Department of Official Language on an additional charge basis, the Personnel Ministry said in the order.
