Annual Mines Safety Week Sets Forth in NCL

Singrauli: The Annual Mines Safety Week-2018 set forth in Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) Headquarters on Monday. Shri Gunadhar Pandey, Director (Technical/Operations) NCL was the Chief Guest of the occasion and Shri P. S. R. K. Sastry, Director (Finance) NCL was present as guest of honour.
 
Asserting that miners safety is paramount and supersedes every other aspect, Shri Pandey said that miners safety cannot be compromised and Zero-Accident should be the guiding principle across the mining operations. He said that all the 10 coal mining projects along with the Central Workshop remain operational around the year to fulfil energy requirement of the nation. He further said that of more than 15,000 employees working in NCL, nearly 10,000 employees work in mines. In addition to this, more than 1000 Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) fleet deployed in mines through departmental means and around 1500 HEMM’s deployed through Hiring of Equipment (HOE) engages the considerable number of employees and workers. In the backdrop of such sizeable numbers and massive scale of operations, the safety has to be cultivated more as a habit than a mandate. He said safety comes first for NCL and the management do not accept any compromise made on the safety front. He added that employees too, in all circumstances, should rank their safety as first and foremost.
 
The guest of honour of the occasion, Director (Finance) NCL Shri P. S. R. K. Sastry unfurled the flag and administered the ‘Safety Pledge’ to employees. The Annual Mines Safety Week was also inaugurated in all the areas and service units of NCL and witnessed an active participation of employees.
 
Notably, NCL is observing Annual Mines Safety Week-2018 from 15th Jan 2018 to 21st Jan 2018. During the week, high-level teams will inspect the mines safety parameters being adopted in various mines of NCL. Post-inspection, the teams will submit their recommendations based on which improvement in existing parameters and deployment of newer initiatives will be undertaken as the need be.
