Bombay HC asksRTI activist to pay for filing misleading PIL

MUMBAI.The Bombay High Court recently imposed a cost of Rs1 lakh on a rickshaw driver, who claimed to be a Right to Information (RTI) activist, and moved court seeking the demolition of a 19-storey tower constructed by an Andheri developer.

A division bench comprising Justices VM Kanade and Swapna Joshi, while rejecting the PIL filed by Sanjay Chavan, said, "We believe that the petitioner was put up to the task by someone. Under these circumstances, in our view, this is a case where the petitioner should be asked to pay a cost." The bench directed Chavan to pay the amount to Tata Cancer Research Society within a week.
