Details of BEL’s Demonstration of EVM to IEC Botswana
BANGLORE: Based on the request letter of Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Botswana, a three member team from Bharat Electronics Limited visited Botswana from 16th to 21st May 2017 for in-depth demonstration of EVM and its related components like VVPAT to Botswana Cabinet Ministers, Political parties md the media.
After reaching Botsw a, team discussed with IEC, Botswana about the news published, the hackathon of Indian EVMs in Botswana. BEL informed that team was deputed only for demonstration of EVM and VVPAT. IEC confirmed that BEL team had been requested to make in-depth presentations and demonstrations of EVM and VVPAT and categorically denied having arranged for hackathon on the India EVM. IEC also assured BEL that the EVMs brought for demonstration would be under safe custody and would not allow anybody to open the machines during the demonstration. Accordingly, IEC issued a letter to BEL which is attached.
During the visit, team made presentation and demonstration of EVM and VVPAT to HonTile Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administrative of Botswana, Hon’ble President of Botswana, Cabinet team, IEC Commissioners, Political parties, IT executives, media, arid Management team of IEC, Permanent Secretaries, and CEO's of Government of Botswana and Diplomatic missions. All queries raised during presentation and demonstration were clarified.
No attempt was made to open or tamper the EVM units through out the stay in Botswana.
