GSL delivers 4th OPV of new class ahead of schedule

WASCO. The Fourth in the class, of New 105M Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) “ICGS SHAUNAK” built on GSL In-house design was delivered to the Indian Coast Guard on 05th Feb 2017, sixty two days ahead of the contractual schedule. Third CGOPV of this series was also delivered well ahead of the contractual schedule. 
 
This largest and most advanced new generation OPV was handed over by RAdm Shekhar Mital, NM, IN (Retd) CMD, GSL to DIG T. Sashikumar, TM Commanding Officer (YD 1221) in presence of DIG Arun Shrivastav, TM, Principal Director (MAT) Indian Coast Guard and DIG Atul Parlikar CGRPS (Goa) on 05th Feb 2017. Shri S P Raikar, Director (Operations) GSL, Shri Sudhakar TN, Director (Finance) GSL Cmde B. B. Nagpal Director (CPP & BD) and other officials of Indian Coast Guard and GSL were also present on the occasion. The vessel is scheduled to be commissioned in Indian Coast Guard later this month. 
 
CMD, GSL in his message said “The delivery of Fourth CGOPV ahead of schedule, with NIL liabilities, is a landmark event for GSL and Coast Guard. The ship was launched on 27 Nov 2015. So far GSL has delivered all four ships of the 6 CGOPVs ahead of schedule and within a short span of 16 months, which is reflective of yard’s shipbuilding capabilities, commitment and validation of our execution skills. This has been made possible due to the very effective feedback mechanism and innate design capability of shipyard. The ship incorporates top end design features and innovation by Shipyard leading to large number of improvements incorporated over its predecessor ships.” 
 
This state-of-the-art OPV is fourth in the class of six OPVs being built by GSL for Indian Coast Guard. The ship has registered excellent performance at sea during trials including higher speed than specification and high fuel efficiency.
 
The induction of SHAUNAK will help meet the increasing requirement of the Indian Coast Guard for undertaking Policing and Patrolling of the vast Indian Exclusive Economic Zone. The ship has state of the art engine / machinery controls for ease of operation, advanced EW and electronic systems and guns, besides gunnery simulator for training the ships crew.
