Inauguration of the New Lignite Conveyor System to Neyveli New Thermal Power Station

Neyveli: Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL inaugurated the New Lignite Conveyor System to Neyveli New Thermal Power Station at a function held at Mine-1A of NLCIL, Neyveli.
 
NLC India Limited, Neyveli contributes major power needs of Tamilnadu State, through its 4 No. of Thermal Power Stations. The Lignite (raw material) required for these thermal power stations are catered through Mine-I, Mine-II and Mine-1A. By taking into consideration of the power need, NLCIL erecting one more power station under the name of “Neyveli New Thermal Power Station” (NNTPS), which has a capacity to generate power of 1000 Mega Watt (2X500 MW). 
 
For the requirement of Lignite to NNTPS, a conveyor system to transport lignite from Mine-1A was inaugurated today by Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD of NLCIL. On this occasion, he said, the cost control measures need to be taken for all our projects and pointed out Mine-1A has set an example by saving an expenditure of about Rs.300 Crores. Shri Subir Das, Director (Mines) of NLCIL said, this 2000 mm width of Conveyor would transport lignite excavated from Mine-1A, through Mine-I Stock Yard. The lignite would travel 6.12 KM from Mine-1 Stock Yard to NNTPP Stock Yard. The conveyor system was commissioned well before commissioning of NNTPP. The approved capital expenditure of Rs.397.43 Cr. for lignite supply conveyor was saved by using old Conveyor systems. By utilizing internal resources, project cost of Mine-1A, which was originally having approval for Rs.1458 Crore as projection, would be reduced to Rs.709 Crore.
