New Delhi: A tripartite agreement was signed on behalf of IndianOil by Shri L W Khongwir, Executive Director, Mathura Refinery, with National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and UP Jal Nigam for the reuse of treated wastewater for refinery from the sewage treatment plant being set up by NMCG. The agreement was signed in the presence of Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation & Road Transport & Highways & Shipping, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Sanjiv Singh, Chairman, IOC and Shri B V Rama Gopal, Director (Refineries), IOC.

Shri Gadkari congratulated team IndianOil for their contribution towards converting waste to wealth. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan appreciated the Mathura Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) model and looked forward to this becoming a case study on environmental sustainability and innovative business model in future.

The STP is being setup at Lakshmi Nagar, Mathura, using suitable technology such as membrane-based bio reactors to meet raw water quality requirement of industries. Mathura Refinery of IOC shall buy and reuse 20 million litres per day of treated waste water from this plant. With this initiative the effluent water, which was hitherto being discharged in the river Yamuna will be used by the Mathura Refinery for industrial purposes, completely eliminating the use of fresh water for refinery operations. With this significant milestone, IndianOil is not only living up to its vision of environment conservation & preservation, but also playing a dynamic role in the mission of Clean Ganga, a mighty river that is the nurturer of our civilisation and a symbol of faith for Indians.
