Inter Area First Aid Competition in Northern Coalfields Limited
Singraouli: Northern Coalfields Limited successfully organised 10th Inter Area First Aid Competition. The closing ceremony of the competition took place in Jhingurda Area recently.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NCL, Shri P. K. Sinha said that First Aid skills finds vast application in all spheres of life and calls for steadfast learning. Every person should not just learn the First Aid skills but should also pass it on to their family, friends and colleagues. He further said that to inspire and facilitate active learning, Northern Coalfields Limited earmarked on organising First Aid Competition and with time the competition has shaped up really well. Mentioning the participation of contractual workers in first-aid competition this year as a trendsetter, Shri Sinha said that this marks unique work culture of NCL. Stressing on the scope of incorporating newer activities and greater participation in the competition, Shri Sinha pronounced that Bina Area will host the First-Aid Competition next year.
Director (Personnel) NCL, Ms Shantilata Sahu equated the first-aid with human service and said it can save lives. Labelling the first-aid as ‘Second line of defence’, Shri Gunadhar Pandey, Director (Technical/Operations) said achieving the state of Zero-Accident is invariably the first line of defence for NCL. But as coal mining, as a process calls for working against nature; it is always better to have a second line of defence in case emergencies strike.
Presenting the report of the competition, Shri.I.B.Mishra, CMS NCL said that total of 51 teams translating into 255 members participated in the competition. The teams were categorised as A, B, C, D and E. Team A constituted of Executives, Overman and employees working in capacity higher than Overman. Similarly, Team B consisted of employees working in capacity lower than Overman. Team C consisted of women, Team D of contractual workers and Team E constituted of school children
Participants were awarded in various categories like viva-voce on First Aid, stretcher drill, individual prizes and overall prize. Team D of Jayant was awarded ‘Overall Winner’ with Team D of Nigahi securing the second prize of the title. First prizes for categories A, B, C, D, E was bagged by Khadia, Jayant, NSC, Jayant, Nigahi in the same order.
Teams from Medical Division and Safety & Rescue Department of Headquarters along with Team Jhingurda played a key role in the organisation of the event.
