Krishnapatnam port looks to capture JNPT cargo with new rail service
Krishnapatnam Port a privately operated alternative gateway on India’s east coast, is targeting western hinterlands served by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, the country`s biggest public container handler, to accelerate its growth.
The minor port has worked out a plan with state-owned rail operator Container Corporation of India to launch regular intermodal services connecting Nagpur, a key inland point in Maharashtra, to Krishnapatnam.
“Import and export cargo shipments from Nagpur have been taking far-fetched routes, resulting in escalated transport costs,” officials told .
