NLC India Limited launches Home for Elders at Neyveli

Neyveli: NLC India Limited has launched “Anandam” the Oldage Home for elders at Neyveli.  The oldage home was inaugurated by Dr. Sarath Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL on 15-08-2017 as a part of 71st Independence Day celebrations.
 
The day long celebrations commenced with the garlanding of Mahatma Gandhi bust at Township Administration Office premises by Dr. Sarath Kumar Acharya.  Later, he hoisted the National Flag at Bharathi Stadium and inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the guard of honour presented by Central Industrial Security Forces, NLCIL Security Personnel, Home guards, Scout and Guides, NSS volunteers and school and College students.
During his address, he paid homage to the great freedom fighters who made India free from the foreign rule.  He saluted and paid respects to all his predecessors and leaders who toiled extensively to build the company.  He pointed out that NLCIL has been growing steadily partnering the growth our country over last six decades by adding strength to the Nation building capacity and contributing to the industrial growth in the areas of Mining and Power generations. He said that NLCIL has moved from a single location company to a company with pan India presence and the business activities spreading across the country.  NLCIL is poised to achieve the grand vision to be a 20,000 MW fuel sufficient power major by 2025.
 
He mentioned that NLCIL has been building infrastructure, irrigate large tracts of land, promote environment and ecology, meet power requirement of uses and contribute to the overall wellbeing of the society.  NLCIL has also implemented the initiatives like augmenting water resources through deepening and de-silting of water bodies at different locations in Tamil Nadu and replicating the same in the areas of its operations across the country. 
 
It has also taken up promotion of aquaculture, water harvesting and providing drinking water through RO based water vending kiosks in various parts of the country. Battery operated vehicles have been put into service at the heritage sites like Puri, Tirupathi, Chidambaram and Madurai. 
 
“Anandam” (Home for elders) was dedicated by Dr. Sarath Kumar Acharya, CMD in the presence of Functional Directors and CVO.  The idea of oldage retirees home in the Township was conceptualized in NLCIL’s last AGM and was announced during the Republic Day, 2017.  The oldage home will be administered by Helpage India, a Non-Governmental Organisation.  In this oldage home, separate rooms will be provided for the men and women in addition to food by NLCIL.
 
As part of skill India mission, several initiatives like Diploma in Mining course in Annamalai University have been taken to equip the youth and it is proposed to start similar courses for the youth from the Project affected families in Ghatampur, UP and in Talibira, Odisha.  He wanted NLCIL to further improve its preparedness on handling emerging situations due to rain, fire etc.
 
NLCIL in coordination with Annamalai University has proposed to start Executive (part time) MBA programme at Neyveli L&DC.  The programme is open to the Public and Private Sector Executives and entrepreneurs.
 
He appreciated the work and efforts of Neyveli Ladies Club in running Sneha School, Smart Kids Play School and creating livelihood through Sneha opportunity services, skill development and women empowerment initiatives including recently started language command programmes.
 
Shri R. Rathinavel, Spl. Gr. Assistant, CMD Secretariat, Corporate Office the senior most worker of the company and his wife Smt. R. Rajavalli were honoured by CMD during the celebrations.  Functional Directors Shri Rakesh Kumar, Shri Subir Das, Shri V. Thangapandian, Shri P. Selvakumar, Shri R. Vikraman and Shri T. Venkatasubramanian, CVO along with their spouses participated in the function and distributed the prizes.  Earlier, Shri R. Vikraman, Director/HR welcome the gathering. NLCIL’s Senior officials, Executives, Supervisors, employees, workers representatives of Unions and Associations, Reporters from Press and Media and Neyveli residents were present at the Bharathi Stadium to witness the celebrations.  Around, 3600 School children presented colourful cultural programme which was appreciated by one and all.
To mark the occasion, the members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the inpatients of NLCIL General Hospital and wish them speedy recovery.
 
Koottu Vazhipadu and Samapandhi Bhojanam were organized in Neyveli Group of Temples.  Certificates were distributed to the students of Neyveli Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha at Lignite Hall, Block-11, Neyveli in a function held in the evening.
