His techniques in dam construction was notable in retaining maximum water and the automatically operating shutters, which were noteworthy at Mysore (Krishnaraja Sagar Dam), Gwalior and even at Africa. The British regime utilized his engineering skills to the maximum extent.

The Neyveli Local Centre of Institution of Engineers (India) partnered with the Engineers and Scientists Association (E&SA), Neyveli to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of the engineering legend Dr Visvesvaraya,at the 50th Engineers Day  celebrations at Neyveli. NLCIL, CMD Dr.Sarat Kumar Acharya, the chief guest of the function paid the floral tributes to the statue of Sir M. In his address, on the theme of the celebration, “Role of Engineers in developing India” he insisted that   capturing and sequestering Carbondioxide emitted by thermal power stations is essential to control global warming. This is high time to Engineers to find  new  technologies   to develop solutions to capture  CO2   to develop valuable products like  urea, ammonia and for using in oil refinery  process.

He stressed on the need for more improvised engineering techniques to meet the changing business scenarios in the power Sector to address low cost power generation to increase the affordability of consumers. He also informed that NLCIL has to review its future plans (to become a 20000 MW plus company), as it was drawn 3 years back, so that much importance can be given to renewable energy sector.

Shri P. Selvakumar, Director (P&P), Chairman of the Institutions of Engineers (India), Neyveli Chapter presided over the function and informed that, during the early period of NLCIL, due to  high affordability of  Conventional Mining Equipments(CME), the company has opted continuous mining technology by deploying Specialised Mining Equipments (SME’s) of German technology. The trouble faced by the machineries during the initial stage in excavating the Neyveli Overburden due to the hardness of the soil were rectified by the  high efforts and mettle of NLCIL engineers. They indigenously modified the technology suitable to Neyveli Mines and proved their core.  Now time has come to prove present engineers to  find out new methods & technology  in  SME‘s to reduce cost of production.
