SAIL Sets Timeline for Medical College Project
ROURKELA:March 17, 2016
A year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP)-run Ispat General Hospital (IGH) will be converted into a super specialty hospital and medical college, the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) will finally begin work for the project.
If everything goes on the expected lines, then admission for the first batch of medical students would start from April 2018.
Almost 10 months after the Prime Minister’s announcement, neither the Steel Ministry nor the SAIL authorities showed any urgency in pursuing the project although Union Tribal Affairs Minister and Sundargarh MP Jual Oram and Rourkela MLA and former Union minister Dilip Ray frequently raised the issue with the Government.
Oram on February 28 had requested SAIL Chairman PK Singh to expedite the super specialty hospital and medical college project. It was followed by a review meeting on March 5 at Rourkela attended by Oram, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and Ray. New Indian Express
