On Top of the World - Women are the driving force of the Worlds Highest LPG Bottling Plant
New Delhi: At the world’s highest Indane LPG bottling plant situated at 11,800 ft. in Phey Village of Ladakh district, it is women power that is playing a key role in the running of the plant. The plant operated by IndianOil has 11 women who carry out various technical and non-technical activities such as cylinder filling and handling, Quality control checks, plant and store maintenance, document management, canteen management, gardening among others.
Despite the harsh weather conditions in which temperatures can drop to -30 Degree Celsius, women form the major part of the plant workforce. One such woman is Padma Angmo who handles looks after documentation along with assisting in Supply and distribution management. 'I feel proud to be associated with IndianOil and to be able serve the people of the region' says Padma who has been working at the plant since its commissioning.
These women have managed to shed traditional stereotypes and are breaking the glass ceiling which restricts women to ‘safe’ and less physical work. Women at the plant are a highly motivated group and have been recognized for their service by the IndianOil leadership with Director (HR), Mr. Ranjan Mohapatra recently felicitating and awarding them for their outstanding work.
The Leh Bottling plant ensures LPG access in far-flung areas of Ladakh and Kargil serving the Indian Army. These women who are the driving force of the plant make it happen.
