The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has Approved 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project

Shimla/New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the investment for 1320 MW Green Field Super Critical Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar. The project is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited. The estimated cost of supercritical 1320-Megawatt Buxar Thermal Power Project is Rs. 10,439 crores at January 2018 price levels.
 
Shri Nand Lal Sharma Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN informed that the Project located at Chausa in Buxar district of Bihar, will have two units of 660 MW each and generate 9828 million units of electricity annually. The project has been planned with special features to perform as per the latest environmental norms. The project is based on Super Critical technology, closed cycle water re-circulation system for zero discharge concepts. The coal requirement for the project has been tied-up and it will be supplied by Central Coal Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) while the State Transmission Utility, Bihar has already approved power evacuation system for this project.
 
Shri Nand Lal Sharma further stated that in terms of the Power Purchase Agreement entered into with the Government of Bihar the project will provide at least 85% of power generated to the state which will not only reduce the demand-supply deficit of Bihar in terms of current power scenario but will also boost industrial activity in the state. The Project is thus very crucial for the industrial development of Bihar which would also act as a multiplier for employment generation and overall growth of the region. The project is planned to be commissioned during the year 2023-24 and approximately 1058-acre land for the project has already been acquired and all statutory clearances are in place. 
 
While expressing gratitude to Government of India for entrusting this big responsibility to SJVN, Shri Nand Lal Sharma, mentioned that in the past SJVN has always achieved all the targets and challenges, and he assured that SJVN is fully prepared and committed to complete this project within stipulated time frame. The Project will be an important milestone in the history of SJVN. He further praised the tireless efforts of the employees who have toiled to enable SJVN in obtaining various clearances related to 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project.
 
He also exhorted all the employees of SJVN to strive hard for attaining the shared vision of SJVN by becoming 5000 MW Company by 2023, 12000 MW by 2030 and 25000 MW Company by 2040.  He further said that SJVN has both technical expertise and financial backing for achieving these targets.  
 
SJVN’s present installed capacity is 2003 MW and projects of 4798 MW are under various stages of development. SJVN has the presence in various sectors of energy generation which includes Hydro, Wind & Solar. The company has also the presence in the field of Energy Transmission.
