NTPC Promotes Traditional forms of Art walls of Pakri-Barwadih office embellished with paintings
Reiterating its commitment to preserve and promote India’s local culture and traditions, the walls of NTPC’s Pakri-Barwadih (Sikri) Coal Mine office have been adorned with conventional forms of art.
The walls, painted with natural colours by the artists, were embellished with Sohari, a prominent tribal art form from the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Also decorated with Khovar art, the walls depict and illustrate various socio-religious traditions and exemplify social messages that emphasise on the importance of undertaking skill development, the need to empower women, to name a few. A group of women belonging to rehabilitated families is currently undergoing the training program at Pakri-Barwadih. Completing paintings within 2-3 days, the locals have shown strong support for this initiative by participating in huge numbers, especially during the harvest season.
NTPC has consistently undertaken CSR initiatives to ensure development of the local communities that reside in and around the project area. It has a dedicated Resettlement & Rehabilitation (R&R) policy that incorporates community development activities. Further, NTPC’s CSR policies cater across a diverse range including efforts towards basic infrastructure development, education, community health & sanitation, capacity building and gender empowerment.
