Shri M.K. Prasad Takes Charge of Director Technical in SECL

Bilaspur: Shri Manoj Kumar Prasad, a mining engineer with over 34 years of hands-on-experience in mining has taken charge as the Director (Technical) in South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) on the 18th of June 2019. He has wide & varied experience in the mining industry and has worked in various capacities in Central Coalfields Ltd, Ranchi, South Eastern Coalfields, Bilaspur, and Northern Coalfields Ltd, Singrauli (M.P).
 
Shri. M. K. Prasad was welcome by the CMD and all Functional Directors in SECL.
 
His rich experience includes work at Barkakana Area, Saunda-D colliery of Central Coalfields Limited from June 1985 to November 2002. He had an opportunity to work in Model mine of 15 & 16 incline. He believes that exposure in diverse areas enhances one’s knowledge and capacity to view wider aspects of work. In such an endeavor, he worked as System Analyst & Designer in CCL Headquarters and was primarily instrumental in developing and implementation of payroll, financial accounting, UGMIS, OCMIS, MINMS and Annual Action Plans on different platforms (Mainframe, Mini, Desktop computers) using softwards like DBMS, Oracle, UNIFY and D base.
 
During May 1994 to Nov’ 2001, he worked in CCL’s Piparwar OCP, an Indo Australian Joint Venture. Here, he held various positions leading to Manager level and was responsible for introduction of new technology like the Mobile Inpit Crushing & Conveying Technology integrated with Washery. Under his reins, this technology was introduced in India for the first time as a part of Technology Transfer Programme. This initiative propelled coal production of Piparwar OCP from 1.2 MTY to 7.2 MTY. 
 
From Nov’ 2001 to Nov’ 2002, he worked as Manager in Ashoka OCP and was instrumental in introduction of Surface Miner and OB outsourcing. This initiative enhanced coal production of the mine from 2.5 MT to 4.3 MT.  
Further, he had the notable experience of working with SECL’s Gevra OCP, the largest coal producing mine of India from Nov 2002 to July 2008. Working as Manager in Gevra OCP he introduced Surface Miner for the first time in SECL. He also introduced 42 cum shovels, 240 T dumpers and OB outsourcing. His initiatives had astounding results as the production rose from 19 MTY to 35 MTY.
 
This overt success of Shri M K Prasad, called for benefiting other subsidiaries of CIL and he was posted in Bina opencast project of Northern Coalfields Ltd, Singrauli (M.P) as CME/AGM from July 2008 to Mar’ 2013 and as Area General Manager from Mar’ 13 to Feb’ 2015. Coal production of Bina project rose from 4.5 MT to 7.5 MT during his tenure. During this period, he was closely associated with the planning of Bina-Kakri amalgamation (10 MTY).
 
Onwards, Shri. M. K. Prasad joined as General Manager at Dudhichua OCP, NCL. During the three years of his tenure from Feb’15 to May’18, the coal production increased from 10.28 MT to 15.50 MT and achieved PR approval for 20 MTY, Stage I clearance for forest land and TOR approval for EC 20 MTY normal & 25 MTY peak. He also held additional charge of GM (Systems) for this period during which he expedited various ongoing IT initiatives in the Company like Coal Net, OITDS, CCTV and GPS based vehicle tracking system.
New benchmarks were created as Shri. M. K. Prasad took charge as the Area General Manager in Khadia project of NCL. His tenure since May 2018 till joining of SECL was a saga of growth as the Khadia project achieved highest YoY growth in coal production of 32.64 % and 42.65 % YoY growth in dispatch. The long pending KBJ line was diverted to commission new workshop and new 6 MTY CHP.
 
Shri. M. K. Prasad is B.Tech (Mining) Hons from IIT-BHU Varanasi with First Class Mine Managers’ Competency Examination and MCA from BIT Mesra. He is also Life Member of MGMI and Secretary of MGMI - Singrauli Chapter.
He has published 9 technical papers at National and International forums/conferences. 
He has thrice attended Technical training at Australia during the year 1994, 2017 and 2019.
