Coal Production Achieving the New Milestone

 

In recent year, Coal India achieve comprehensive growth in coal production. The total production of raw coal in the country during April-November 2018-19 was 433.896 Million Tonne (MT) compared to 394.910 MT during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, recorded the highest single day Coal production of the current financial year by mining 7.27 lakh tonne coal, alone on 12th March 2019. While South Eastern Coalfields (SECL) a Miniratna' Company, and one of eight fully owned subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. has crossed coal production of 150 Million Tonnes on 20th March 2019. With this new record, SECL has become the first company in India to cross the coal production figure of 150 Million Tonnes. And Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), the third subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has become the third company of the country to produce 100 million tonne coal. With this, the company achieved its assigned target of 100 million tonnes of coal production.

Renewable energy generation in India continues to grow, accounting for ~16.10% of India’s energy mix, according to Mercom Capital Group. The country’s total installed generation capacity is 315,369.08 MW with renewables accounting for 50,745 MW of it.

Hydropower makes up 14.01 per cent, with 44,189.43 MW of the total power generated in the country. Nuclear power has a total capacity of 5,780 MW and making up 1.83 per cent of the energy generation.

The primary energy consumption in India is the third biggest after China and USA with 5.6% global share in last FY. Alone coal full-fill 44% requirement of the energy and continue growing.
