Dr. Samir V. Kamat gets further extension as Secretary Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO

New Delhi, 27 May 2025: As per the notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in service of Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, for a further period of one year from June 01, 2025, till May 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Dr. Kamat is an alumnus of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and the Institution of Engineers India (IEI). He is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from IIT Kharagpur, the Metallurgist of the Year Award from the Ministry of Steel and the Scientist of the Year Award from DRDO.

Dr. Kamat was first appointed to the post in August 2022, replacing Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy.
