SAIL-Bhilai's Plant Set records of hot metal production

The five blast furnaces of Bhilai Steel Plant currently in operation together produced 17,525 Tonnes of hot metal on 13th Jan 2021, surpassing the previous best of 17,156 T produced on 11th Jan 2021.

New Delhi: SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s blast furnaces have with the support of upstream & downstream shops, once again set a new record in daily hot metal production. The five blast furnaces of Bhilai Steel Plant currently in operation together produced 17,525 Tonnes of hot metal on 13th Jan 2021, surpassing the previous best of 17,156 T produced on 11th Jan 2021. New day records had also been set on 9th and 10th Jan 2021 with 17,050 T and 17,071 T produced, respectively.

For three days in a row, the Plant’s Blast Furnace 8, Mahamaya has recorded the highest Coal Dust Injection (CDI) rate. CDI rate is an important techno-economic parameter of blast furnace operations and BF 8 has recorded the highest CDI rate among similar capacity furnaces in SAIL at Rourkela and ISP, Burnpur. On 13th Jan 2021, Blast Furnace 8 recorded its highest CDI rate of 182 kg per tonne of hot metal, surpassing the previous best records of 180 kg/THM recorded on 12th Jan 21 and 178 kg/THM recorded on 11th Jan 2021.

Director I/c SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, Shri Anirban Dasgupta has congratulated members of the Blast Furnaces Team and supporting shops and departments for sustaining high levels of production. He also congratulated the BF 8 team for maintaining a high rate of coal dust injection. Credit for enabling high CDI rate also goes to Coke Ovens and Sinter Plant collective for maintaining requisite coke and sinter quality parameters, he said.

On 13th Jan 2021, Bhilai Steel Plant’s Ore Handling Plant too set a new record with 34,580 Tonnes of total raw material despatch, surpassing the previous best of 34,200 T on 31st Jan 2020.
