Expert Committee on Safety in Coal Mines
The committee held interaction with the workers and reviewed various safety measures in place at the mine area.
Ranchi: The High-Level Expert Committee on Safety in Coal Mines (constituted by the Ministry of Coal for reviewing the safety status in coal mines) interacted with the Regional Executive Director (Coal Mining) & senior NTPC Coal Mining officers (Headquarters-Ranchi) on 29.11.2021. The committee is comprised of seven domain experts led by Shri TK Nag Ex-CMD (NCL) & the Chairman of the Committee.
The distinguished members were welcomed by Shri Partha Mazumder, RED (Coal ). A presentation on Safety and Health Framework for NTPC's Coal Mining Business with special emphasis on safety in MDO model was made which showcased best practices across all coal mining projects of NTPC alongwith the e-Safety Management Plan (SMP) developed by Shri GVS Rama Manohar, DGM(IT) of CMHQ and being implemented in the coal mining projects of NTPC.
During the discussion, committee members provided valuable insights based on their expertise which shall serve to be beneficial to NTPC in the long run.
The Expert Committee visited NTPC Pakri Barwadih Mine on November 30,2021. Shri Partha Mazumder, Regional Executive Director (Coal Mining) accompanied the committee members for the physical visit and inspection of the mine.
Shri MVR Reddy, Executive Director (PB, PB-NW and Badam) briefed them about the various measures being taken by the project to ensure the safety of the people working in the mine operations.
Various good practices of safety at mine were also shared with expert committee members. The committee held interaction with the workers and reviewed various safety measures in place at the mine area. The expert committee also visited the various infrastructures of NTPC and MDO including MDO’s Health Centre at mine and the textile factory employing the ladies from project affected families.
The Chairman and all the members appreciated the overall work done by the project and specifically the measures taken to ensure the safety of the manpower and machines deployed for mining operations.
