Rourkela: The modified system of Oxygen supply to the Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) from the Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) tank of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was inaugurated on 12th May, 2021 by Mr. Raj Vir Singh, ED (Hospital Administration) and Mr. Pankaj Kumar, ED (Works). Also present on the occasion were Mr. S K Behera, CGM In-charge (Projects), Mr. C R Mohapatra, CGM In-charge (MM & Marketing), Mr. Swaroop Panigrahi, CGM (Hospital Administration), Ms. A.S.Kartha, GM In-charge (Oxygen Plant ) and others senior officers of RSP.

Notably, the highly motivated Oxygen Plant collective took up the challenge to interconnect the existing LMO tank of IGH with the Cylinder manifold pipeline of SSH. The interlinking was successfully done with in-house resources and expertise. The new system will eliminate the dependency on oxygen cylinders for Oxygen supply to SSH. It is noteworthy that about 200 cylinders were required to be handled in fitting at manifold and refilling on a day to day basis at SSH earlier.

It is worth mentioning here that keeping in view the surge in the COVID positive cases in the region, under the guidance and directive of Hon’ble Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and with the help and support of the District Administration, the SAIL Super Specialty Hospital is being used as a facility for treatment of the critically ill COVID patients. Emergency procurement actions have been taken up, through which the number of ventilators in the above facility is very soon going to be augmented to 100.
