PowerGrid conducts Training Program on Tower Climbing

The training is being conducted at the Raipur Sub-station of POWERGRID under the guidance of expert engineers.

New Delhi: A Training Program on Tower Climbing is being conducted by the Government of India Maharatna PSU, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) for technicians of Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Co. Limited (CSPTCL) at Raipur from 20th-23rd January 2021 as part of Human Resource Development (HRD) Consultancy services for stakeholders. The training program is being conducted under strict protocol taking care of all COVID-19 related measures.

The training is being conducted at the Raipur Sub-station of POWERGRID under the guidance of expert engineers. The Sub-station has full-fledged facilities for imparting hands-on experience for Tower Climbing for Maintenance of High Voltage Transmission Lines in addition to hostel & classroom facilities.

A number of programmes have already been conducted for Engineer Trainees, Diploma Trainees & Technicians in the past apart from refresher courses for people engaged in Transmission Line Maintenance. The four-day program was inaugurated by Shri P. K. Gupta, ED (C&LM) CSPTCL in the presence of Shri Kuleshwar Sahu, Senior GM (Asset Management) and other senior officials of POWERGRID Raipur Sub-station.

POWERGRID has been extending its learning interventions in various domains to the personnel from the power sector and other industrial sectors in the country and abroad through its HRD Consultancy Wing. Every year number of training programs are conducted as part of Capacity Building/HRD Consultancy services. The domestic clientele of POWERGRID HRD Consultancy Services includes the Ministry of Power, CPSUs like NTPC, REC, PFC, EESL, POSOCO etc., state PSUs like Delhi Transco Limited, MSETCL (Maharashtra), MPPTCL (Madhya Pradesh), HVPNL (Haryana), CSPTCL (Chhattisgarh), infrastructure companies like KIIFB (Kerala), funding agencies like EXIM bank, training institutes like NPTI, SGKC (NSGM-MoP) and private sector companies like GE, ABB, etc.

POWERGRID has been regularly conducting training programs for several organizations from overseas like Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, Nepal Electricity Authority, Bhutan Power Corporation Limited, Ceylon Electricity Board (Srilanka), and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited, etc. The training services have also been extended to various African nations (like Nigeria, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mauritius, and Seychelles, etc.) through the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India as part of their co-operation programs.

POWERGRID HRD, in partnership with the Government of India and the World Bank, is providing its expertise in the area of capacity building and institutional strengthening to the power utilities in the states of North Eastern Region of India under the NERPSIP project.

As part of stakeholder development, POWERGRID has also taken numerous initiatives through its HRD wing for skill development of a large number of unemployed youths in partnership with Government agencies which has helped to generate skilled manpower for the entire power sector.

POWERGRID has been recently awarded the prestigious global ATD Best Award (2021) by Association for Talent Development for its L&D initiatives.
