Republic Day Celebrated At NLCIL

Neyveli: The 71st  Republic Day of the Nation was celebrated at NLCIL with great fervour and enthusiasm. Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Township Administration Office premises in the presence of Functional Directors and inaugurated the day long celebrations. Later, he hoisted the tricolour at the Bharathi Stadium. He inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the Guard of Honour presented by the Rifle, Commando and Fire Service units of Central Industrial Security Force, NLCIL’s Security Force, Fire Services, Home Guards, NCC volunteers and students of Neyveli Schools and College.

 

The  function commenced with the welcome address by Shri R. Vikraman, Director/HR. He recalled the occasion when a committee was constituted to frame the Constitution of country under the Chairmanship of  Dr. Babasahib Ambedkar.  He further said that 70 years before on the same day, the Constitution was adopted with a motto “Of the People, For the People and By the People” . 

 

In his Republic Day message, Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD  appealed everyone to pay rich tribute to the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji, and the great freedom fighters who made our nation as a Sovereign Republic. (Copy of the text of  CMD’s speech is enclosed.) He also asked  to respect our National Flag, which is an embodiment of dignity, sovereignty and pride of our achievement of Independence in 1947. 

While addressing on the Government’s Plan on Green Energy, he said that India has already set the Renewable energy target of 175 GW, so that to achieve the target of 40% of total power generation capacity using Non-Fossil fuel by 2022 and 45% by 2030.  This will reduce the ‘Carbon Foot Print’ as well as to mark growth of Renewable Energy, the key indicator of the economic  development of the Nation, he added. 

Shri Rakesh Kumar informed that as a partner of progress of the Country, NLCIL  has already set an ambitious target to reach 21,011 MW power generation by 2025 with a share of 4251MW from Renewable Energy and successfully striving forward to achieve the same.  He proudly announced that NLCIL’s present installed capacity on Thermal Sector  is  4640 MW and Renewable energy sector is 1404 MW and the  total capacity has reached  6044 MW.

 

While touching on the Mining Sector he said that  the Company has planned  to develop Lignite Mines in Tamilnadu and Rajasthan to the tune of 31.55 Million Tonnes per Annum (MTPA) and Coal Mines of 31.00 MTPA at Odisha and Jharkhand and Coal Mines for  Commercial Mining for  30.00 MTPA  to aim for a total Mining capacity to 123.15 MTPA by 2025.  By this, the Lignite mining capacity of the company will be increased to 62.15 MTPA, he said. He also revealed that three pronged strategy of enhancing revenue, reduction in cost and bringing excellence and efficiency in all the spheres of  business is bringing the desired results and he hoped that the strategy will reflect in the current financial year.  

 

The senior most employee of NLCIL Smt. K. Pappammal, Attendant Spl. Gr.A, Material Management Complex  along with her  spouse Shri S. Kuppusamy  were honoured  and  tricycles were presented to Smt. N. Ayyammal and Shri Arulnathan, differently abled persons (Divyangs).

Shri R. Vikraman, Director (Human Resource) and Shri N.N.M Rao, Director  (Planning & Projects), Shri Prabhakar Chowki, Director/Mines and Shri Shaji John, Director/Power, participated in the function and the long service awards, loyal service awards and special awards were also presented to the employees and students.

 

NLCIL’s employees, representatives of Trade Unions and Associations and the residents of Neyveli were present in Bharathi Stadium to witness the celebrations. Colourful cultural programme presented by about 2500 school children were appreciated by one and all. In recognition of the talent exhibited during the cultural programmes gift was announced for the students who have participated and  performed in the entire  programme. 

 

To mark this occasion, the Members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the in-patients of the NLCIL General Hospital and wished them for a speedy recovery.  The highlight of the evening function was the distribution of certificates to the students of the Neyveli Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha at Lignite Hall, Block-11,  Neyveli.
