New Delhi: To achieve the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi on cleanliness and sanitation, “Swachh Bharat Mission” or “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” or “Clean India Mission” was initiated by the Government of India. To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put the focus on sanitation, the Prime Minister of India had launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October 2014.

The focus was to eliminate open defecation, improve solid waste management and cleanliness drive throughout the country. Phase 1 of the mission lasted till October 2019 (150 years Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi). Phase 2 will be implemented between 2020-21 and 2024-25. As part of the above, Swachhta Week is observed every year in Braithwaite & Co. Ltd. This year too, the program kick started with cleaning drive in both Kolkata and Angus Units.
