New Delhi: Shri Benny Behanan, Hon’ble MP Chalakudy, Shri Hibi Eden, Hon’ble MP Ernakulam, Shri P Vijayan IPS, Inspector General of Police, Coastal Security and Director Social Policing, Dr. M Beena, Chairperson, Cochin Port Authority and Shri Chacko M Jose, Chief General Manager (Operations), BPCL together energised the youth who participated in the grand closing ceremony of the Swacchata Pakhwada by BPCL Kochi Refinery.

At this 'Save the Earth' (Kakkanam ee mannine) campaign, Dr. Indira Rajan, Chief Patron General Secretary - National Council for CBSE Schools, Smt Sheeja Viswanathan, Vice President, Thiruvaniyoor Grama Panchayat, Dr. Fr. Joseph MK, Head of Department of Social Sciences, Rajagiri College, Shri S Ramesh, Deputy General Manager, Malayala Manorama and Shri George Thomas, General Manager (PR & Admn), BPCL also spoke.

The ‘Plastend’ project of Cochin Refineries School was also formally launched at this event.

Students interacted with the dignitaries who urged them to view the programme as the beginning of the end of using plastics in their daily life. Earlier, students of Rajagiri College performed a flash mob and a short skit depicting the message of the campaign. Over 600 students participated in the closing ceremony.

The 'Save the Earth' campaign against use of plastics came to a close on 15 July 2022 after a fortnight of awareness talks, street plays and flash mobs with the message to avoid single-use plastics. The BPCL swachhata campaign reached closed to a lakh of students in around 60 schools the district.

The campaign was executed by Outreach, a student’s unit of the #Rajagiri College of Social Sciences in association with Malayala Manorama Nallappadam schools.
