CMPDI commissions Automatic Servo Controlled Large Direct Shear Machine
LDSM is the largest machine, which is one of its kind in the country and one among the largest in the world.
Ranchi: Central Mine Planning & Design Institute, Ranchi has commissioned an Automatic Servo Controlled Large Direct Shear Machine (LDSM) in its newly constructed Geo-Technical Lab.
LDSM is the largest machine, which is one of its kind in the country and one among the largest in the world with a normal and shear load capacity of 2500kN each and it can test particle size up to 80cms.
LDSM was developed and designed by CMPDI in association with IIT Delhi and manufactured in India. This LDSM is used for the estimation of Strength Properties of representative Over-Burden (OB) dump and Rock Material under true field stress conditions.
These properties are used for assessment of stability of pit & dump slopes in opencast coal mines, thereby helping in optimisation of land requirements.
