NEW DELHI- On Republic Day, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) delivered the second consignment of three Floating Border Out-Post (FBOPs) ships out of nine FBOPs being built for BSF to guard India's borders. However, three more ships will be delivered in the coming months.

Cochin Shipyard was incorporated in the year 1972 as a wholly-owned Government of India company. Over the past three decades, the company has emerged as a forerunner in the Indian shipbuilding and ship repair industry.

This yard can build and repair the largest ships in India. It can build ships up to 1,10,000 DWT and repair ships up to 1,25,000 DWT. The yard has delivered 95,000 DWT each to India's two largest double hull Aframax tankers.

 
CSL has secured shipbuilding orders from internationally renowned companies from Europe and the Middle East and is nominated to build the country's first indigenous Air Defense Ship.

The shipyard has undertaken up-gradation of ships of the oil exploration industry apart from merchant vessels of SCI and ONGC as well as periodic repairs and repairs of all types of vessels including life extension of ships of Navy, UTL, Coast Guard, Fisheries and Port Trust. The yard has developed enough capabilities over the years to handle complex and sophisticated repair works.
 
The shipyard also trains graduate engineers to marine engineers who later join both Indian and foreign ships as the 5th Engineer, 100 are trained every year. Cochin Shipyard was conceived in the year 1969 as the country's first greenfield shipbuilding yard.

The yard was designed and constructed with technical support from M/s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Japan and the company came into existence in 1972.
