Defence Ministry approves military procurement proposal worth Rs 8722 Crore

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence announced the procurement proposal for equipment required for the Indian armed force on Tuesday putting up the idea of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

The proposal is approved by the Defence Acquisition Council (DCA) and chaired by the Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh. The deal also includes the 106 basic trainer aircraft for Indian Air Force. The basic trainer aircrafts successfully developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). 
 
The statement released by the Defence Ministry states that the move was made to strengthen the Armed Forces by relying on indigenous capability to take forward the initiative on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. 
 
The Indian govt also announced last week the import of 101 weapons and military platforms which includes light combat helicopters, transport aircraft, conventional submarines, and cruise missiles by 2024. The move is aimed at safeguarding the domestic manufacturers. 
 
To improve the firepower of the Indian Navy, the DAC approved the procurement of an upgraded version of Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) which is fitted as the main gun on board Navy and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) warships from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The upgraded version of SRGM has enhanced capability to perform against fast manoeuvring targets like missiles and Fast Attack Crafts and increase the maximum engagement range.
