Enterprising job by SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant leads to substantial saving
This resulted in reduction of man-hour delays by 3 days and substantial financial savings for the plant.
Rourkela: The Repair Shop (Mechanical) team of SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has successfully completed the critical job of refining and machining of Turbine Rotor of Power Blowing Station, a unit of Captive Power Plant. This resulted in reduction of man hour delays by 3 days and substantial financial savings for the plant.
The turbine motor was shut down and taken for capital repairs after running continuously for approximately 5 years. The associated machine parts including stationary guide blades were also dismantled and replaced with new fins which were machined to specified sizes as per the approved drawing.
The job was very intricate and required high levels of skill, since the job was undertaken for the first time job using in-house resources it had no standard procedure for doing the job.
