Orissa: On 21 August 22, around 1900 hrs, a passenger vessel carrying around 70 people onboard was reported to be washed away due to heavy current in the Mahanadi river in Kendrapara District, Odisha. One of GRSE make Fast Interceptor Boat under Jamboo Marine Police Station, Coastal Security was immediately deployed for the rescue operation.

Despite inclement weather condition and strong currents, the GRSE built and maintained Fast Interceptor Boat arrived at the location and carried out the rescue operation. Women and children were rescued first and taken to the nearest Jetty at Khadinashi fishing harbour. Subsequently, all other passengers were rescued.

No casualties have been reported so far. The rescue operation took approximately 04 hours.It may be noted that there are 15 in Nos GRSE make Fast Interceptor Boats (FIBs) deployed for patrolling in the coastal area of Odisha under Coastal Security Police, Govt of Odisha and these boats are also maintained by GRSE. These boats have contributed immensely in patrolling and rescue operations in the flood affected area in the districts of North Odisha.
