New Delhi: Prime Minister of India on Wednesday speaks after opposition parties criticised BJP on price hike on petrol for the ninth consecutive day. Petrol price hits Rs 100 per ltr for the first time in the country.

Speaking on this, PM said, that the middle class would not have had such difficulty if the previous governments had paid attention to the dependence on energy imports.

Without mentioning the steady increase in oil prices, he said that in 2019-20, India has imported 85 percent oil and 53 percent gas to meet its domestic demands.

On the other hand, he also inaugurated the Ramanathapuram-Thoothukudi section of Ennore-Thiruvallur-Bengaluru-Puducherry-Nagapattinam-Madurai-Tuticorin natural gas pipeline in Tamil Nadu.

After this, in his address, the Prime Minister said, "Should we be so dependent on imports?" I do not want to criticize anyone but I must say that if we had paid attention to this subject, our middle class would not have to bear the burden. ''

He said, "It is our collective duty to work towards clean and green energy sources and reduce energy dependence."
