NHPC to resume Teesta-V Power generation by FY26
State-owned NHPC to soon resume the power generation from the Teesta-V Project in the third quarter of FY26. The company is currently assessing the claim amount related to recent damages, having notified the insurer of a Rs 400 crore claim.
A landslide at the Teesta-V Power Station (510 MW) affected parts of the Tail Race Tunnel (TRT), and a severe flash flood in the Teesta Basin in October 2023 led to a complete shutdown of the Teesta-5 power station. Restoration work is still projected to be completed by March 2025.
Raj Kumar Chaudhary, CMD of NHPC said further details will be submitted to the insurer soon. The company's bottom line is projected to be around Rs 4,000 crore for FY25 and Rs 7,000 crore for FY27-28.

“This year, our capex is more than Rs 11,000 crore, and we have already spent Rs 3,200 crore by July end; we are on the target. Last year we spent more than Rs 8,000 crore capex, achieving more than 83% of the target. But this year, we are on the target and will achieve more than Rs 11,000 crore capex,” he added.
The company is working on early warning systems. The annual insurance premium for FY24 is Rs 500 crore and is expected to remain the same for FY25.
