NEW DELHI- NTPC Bongaigaon today donated activity based learning lab materials to Salakati ME School, Kokrajhar adjacent to the power station. The activity-based learning was inaugurated by Shri Karunakar Das, Chief General Manager (CGM), NTPC Bongaigaon. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Karunakar Das emphasised on NTPC’s commitment towards welfare of local communities and how he hoped this particular initiative would prove to be a positive changemaker in the children’s learning curves.

Earlier, Smt. Sandita Brahma, Head-teacher of the school welcomed Shri Das and other officials of NTPC. Smt. Brahma also thanked NTPC Bongaigaon management for this gesture along with getting a chance to send students from the school to be part of NTPC’s flagship CSR initiative- Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM).

This project is being done in collaboration with EdCIL, a Govt of India Enterprise for supplying materials for creating the learning lab in the school for students upto class VIII.

The bright and cheerful students at the school demonstrated how they had learned various concepts through the lab materials supplied to the school. This project is set to benefit both the learning and upskilling of teachers (to adapt innovative teaching methods), as well as around 350 students (improving learning and retention levels).

The inaugural programme was also attended by Shri Shashi Shekhar, Additional General Manager (HR), Shri Madhurjya Singha Lahkar, Sr. Manager, Corporate Communications and Ms. Aduity Thakuri, Executive, CSR.

NTPC Bongaigaon as a part of the company's CSR policy on “improving learning outcomes & Quality of Education for children studying in government schools” has facilitated the implementation of this Activity-Based Learning Lab.

It is pertinent to mention that education is one of the major focus areas of NTPC’s CSR Policy, where the objective is to improve learning levels of school going children by implementing innovation to pedagogy. The intervention implemented by NTPC for primary school students has also been recommended by National Education Policy as “play-based or activity-based learning”.

This form of interactive pedagogical style in the foundational stages of a child’s education is believed to be more long lasting, and joyful.
