Bongaigaon: NTPC Bongaigaon today joined hands with Assam Rifles, the oldest paramilitary force of the Indian Army, in their 3000 kms approx long ‘Freedom Cycling Rally’ as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations which started from Shillong to New Delhi from 5th Sep 2021. The Rally commemorates 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture, achievements and also promotes the “Fit India Movement”.

 

NTPC Bongaigaon contingent of more than 20 cyclists headed by Shri Subrata Mandal, ED, NTPC Bongaigaon saw participation of employees from various Deptts. of the power station who rode more than 18 kms with the Assam Rifles Team. The cyclists carried the flags of NTPC and “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav '' from NH-27 starting from Kashikotra to Kharegaon where the cyclists were felicitated by the senior management of the station.

 

At the National Highway interjecting Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon, NTPC senior management headed by Shri Subrata Mandal, ED, NTPC Bongaigaon in the presence of Shri Umesh Singh, GM (FM and Maintenance), Shri H.K. Brahma, Commandant, CISF and senior officials felicitated the jawans headed by Colonel Ajit Khatri and his team of 40 cyclists enroute to Delhi for the noble cause.

 

Addressing the gathering in a small function organised at the national highway, Colonel Khatri said Assam Rifles popularly known as the ‘Sentinels of the North East’ has committed itself towards peace and development of the North East. He thanked the warm gesture of NTPC for supporting the cause which not only is a celebration but a tribute to all those who have sacrificed their lives for the country. He appreciated the CSR efforts of NTPC across the nation and Assam and encouraged the power major to continue their efforts towards nation building.

 

Addressing the gathering Shri Subrata Mandal, ED, NTPC Bongaigaon lauded the spirit of the contingent and thanked their selfless contribution to the nation. He thanked them for all the dedication and service they offer to the country keeping the spirit of patriotism in flying colours.  As a mark of remembrance of the saga of bravery, Shri Mandal and the team of NTPC felicitated them with the traditional Aronai -a symbol of respect and warmth and refreshments on their onward journey.

Shri Umesh Singh, GM (FM and Maintenance) also appreciated the initiative of Assam Rifles and the spirit of 75 years of India’s Glorious Independence.Shri A.K.Chawla, AGM(HR), Shri Shashi Shekhar, AGM(HR), Shri Bhaskar Gupta, DGM(HR) were also present during the occasion. Exhibits of CSR and celebrating India’s 75 years of Independence were also highlighted during the programme.  

 

The Cycle Rally of the Assam Rifles which started its journey today from Shillong, Meghalaya plans to touch important places associated with India’s freedom movement en-route to New Delhi. The rally includes numerous interactions with locals to include them in the spirit of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations which will culminate on 2nd October at Rajghat, New Delhi.
