Kolkata: POWERGRID Medinipur-Jeerat Transmission Line, a 100% subsidiary company of Government of India Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) successfully commissioned 3000 MW 765/400 kV New Jeerat Sub-station in West Bengal and associated transmission lines on 26.09.2021.

765 kV Ranchi- Medinipur- New Jeerat (Kalyani) Transmission line is the first radial link of this region connecting Jharkhand to West Bengal. The stability of the grid along with voltage level has improved considerably after the commissioning of Medinipur & New Jeerat (Kalyani) Sub-station as well as a transmission line.

Moreover, it will provide additional power, whenever required during exigencies, to cater to the load demand of the West Bengal grid, and will also provide a corridor for the export of surplus power of West Bengal to other parts of the country.

Implementation of high capacity Ranchi-Medinipur–Jeerat 765 kV D/C line along with the establishment of 765/400 kV substations at Medinipur and Jeerat has provided a strong East- West connection in the Eastern Region and it will feed large load centers of West Bengal in and around the metro city of Kolkata. It will also improve the power scenario of West Bengal particularly North & South 24 (Parganas) Districts and Kolkata.

POWERGRID presently has 172,154 ckm of transmission lines, 262 Sub-stations, and more than 446,940 MVA of transformation capacity.
