Railtel, CDoT inks MoU to provide affordable broadband services
The synergy between C-DOT and RailTel will help in providing affordable broadband services to the masses in rural areas by lowering the cost of equipment.
New Delhi: An Indian Government-owned telecommunications technology development centre, C-DOT, and RailTel signed an MoU for cooperation in the diverse areas of Telecom with a key focus on modernization & expansion of nationwide communications networks. The synergy between C-DOT and RailTel will help in providing affordable broadband services to the masses in rural areas by lowering the cost of equipment.
About RailTel Corporation of India:
RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. under the ownership of Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, Government of India focusing on providing broadband and VPN services. RailTel was formed in September 2000 with the objective of creating a nationwide broadband, telecom and multimedia network, to modernise train control operation and safety system of Indian Railways. RailTel's network passes through around 5,000 stations across the country, covering all major commercial centres. RailTel, in collaboration with Google, provides free WiFi access at selected railways stations across India.
About C-DOT:
C-DOT has expanded to develop intelligent computer software applications. It has offices in Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata. It is one of the few government organisations in India which have been appraised at Maturity Level 5 of CMMI-DEV v1.3.
