Raksha Mantri appreciates BDL’s contribution to Atmanirbharta mission

Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh today visited Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Bhanur Unit. On arrival, the Hon’ble Minister was received by CMD,BDL Commodore Siddharth Mishra (Retd). 

Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sandeep Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VM, BDL Director (Technical) Shri NP Diwakar, Director (Production), Shri P Radhakrishna, Director (Finance) Shri N Srinivasulu, Chief Vigilance Officer, Dr Upender Vennam, IPoS and other senior officials from BDL were present.

A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled by the Hon’ble Minister at BDL premises. The Hon’ble Minister later inaugurated the Warhead facility at the Bhanur Unit of BDL followed by virtual inauguration of RF (Radio Frequency)Seeker facility located at BDL, Kanchanbagh Unit,Central Storage facility at BDL Visakhapatnam Unit which have been set up towards realization of Atmanirbharta in Defence manufacturing by the Company. 

The Hon’ble Minister also inaugurated virtually the infrastructure facilities(viz, Multipurpose Community Hall, Gymnasium, Science Laboratories at Govt Junior College, nine additional class rooms at Zilla Parishad School, two additional class rooms at elementary school) in Military Madhavaram village, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradeshwhich have beenconstructed by BDL as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of the Company.


In his address, the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri stated that the contribution being made by BDL to makeIndia Atmanirbhar in Defence is commendable.He expressed happiness to note that BDL is keeping itself future ready by upgrading its strategic infrastructure as well as the skills of its human resources. The Hon’ble Minister wished the Management for achieving more laurels to make the nation Atmanirbhar in the coming years. 

CMD,BDL Commodore Siddharth Mishra in his address statedBDL, under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission initiated by the Government of India has taken several measures to contribute for realization of a self-reliant India.The manufacturing facilities being inaugurated today by Hon’ble RM are among these measures taken up by BDL. The facilities set up meet international standards and have been completed in record time. He also stated that BDL products have high export potential and the Company has received leads for export from several countries.


As an endeavour to contribute towards realization of Atmanirbhar Bharat in Defence sector, BDL has set up warhead manufacturing facility at its Bhanur Unit.With the setting up of this facility,BDL will be one more step towards self-reliance as the facility will be used both for its current as well as futuristic missiles. An amount of Rs 44Crores has been invested by the Company in setting up the facility.


BDL has established an integrated RF Seeker Facility Centre for production &testing of RF seekers. Seeker is a critical & technology intensive subsystem which will be used in all future Missiles for target tracking. BDL is manufacturing KU Band seekers, which is first of its kind by BDL. The indigenous manufacturing of the seeker, which is around half the cost of the missile, is a major demonstration of Atmanirbharta and the contribution of BDL in creating a complete indigenous vendor ecosystem in India.This facility has been established by BDL with an investment of Rs. 50 Crores and has been completed in a record time. Setting up of this facility has made BDL join the elite club of select few companies across the globe to have the capability to produce the seekers.


The state-of- the Art Central Storage facility established at BDL,Visakhapatnam is equipped with modern storage system consisting of vertical Carousel System, Mechanical Compactor and Motorised Compactor which can cater the entire storage needs of the Unit. Thefacility has been constructed with a built-up area of 780Sqm with a Pre-Engineered Building concept worth Rs 4.90 Crore. The facility has state- of- the- art features for real time transactions of the items and Inventory monitoring. 


Madhavaram village, which is located near Tedepaligudem, West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, is popularly known as ‘Military Madhavaram’, as the village has a large number of persons joining the army.BDL,being a Defence PSU, has adopted this village, as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and as a continued CSR initiative, has constructed the infrastructure in the village at a cost of Rs. 4.5 crores.
